The overall range (d-e’’) and some chords of the parts as a whole composed by Marc’Antonio Ziani for viola da gamba suggest that he had an alto-tenor viol in mind, even if their execution is not impossible on a bass viol.
The range of the viol parts in La Flora is g-d’’; chords can be found in the solo part of “ Chi piacere altrui desia”. In the ms. I-Vnm the viols are sometimes called violette da gamba .
