The viola da gamba is not specified, but some pieces have clearly violistic chords and sometimes the indication "viola" can be found.
More palatino and Alamanta are variations on a bass; perhaps they imply another part that is now lost.
The first of the fantasies (no. 55 of the ms.) has two alternative clefs, tenor clef and bass clef; above the clefs is written "Bass Viol.". If read in tenor clef the range of the piece is D-g’; if read in bass clef GG-c’. “Bass Viol." could therefore be understood as an instrument tuned in GG.
