Title of the 1709 edition: Musikalische Gemüths-Ergetzüng oder zusammen-Stimmung vier der anmuthigsten musikalischen Instrumenten, als der Lauthe, der Angelica, der Viola di Gamba und der Chytara: welche nach der neuesten italiänischen und französischen Manier also eingerichtet, daß sie entweder alle zugleich, oder ein jedes besondern können gespielet werden = Les Accors de quatre des plus harmonieux instruments de musique à scauoir du luth, de l'angeliqve, de la viole de gambe et de la gvitarre / auffgesetzt durch einen grossen Liebhaber der Music-Kunst.

On the title page of the edition the author specifies that these arias are “also eingerichtet, Daß Sie entweder mit einer Stimme allein zu singen benebenst dem General Baß Oder aber zugleich und besonders auf der Lauthe, Angelique, Viola di Gamba, und Chitarra können gespielet werden” (“arranged in such a way that they can be sung with a single voice accompanied by the basso continuo, or played simultaneously and particularly on the lute, angelique, viola da gamba and chitarra”).
Since the four instrument parts are all intabulations of the voice and b.c. parts, the composer’s instruction ‘zugleich und besonders’ (even clearer in the edition of 1709: “daß sie entweder alle zugleich, oder ein jedes besondern können gespielet werden” - ‘that they can be played either all at once, or each one separately’) can be interpreted in the broadest sense: The arias can be performed in all possible combinations of voice and/or instruments, including the combination of all instruments, the voice accompanied by viola da gamba, and the viola da gamba alone.
The author makes use of 11 different scordaturas for the viola da gamba, which he always describes diligently. The part is written in tablature.
