The manuscript D.249 contains the second sonata and three different versions of the fourth: no. 4 is a simplified version for bass viol and b. c. and a version for three viols in which the original viol part has been divided between two instruments; no. 18 I and II are the second and fourth sonatas with interesting variations compared to the printed version, including some completely new movements. It is conceivable that this version is based on an original manuscript that predates the printing.
The ms. D-WD 898, dated 1722, is certainly a copy of the printed edition, as can be deduced from the general fidelity to the original and from a smaller copying error at the end of the Adagio.
